Given the appropriate information, the BufferStack will construct a complete recipe for a buffer that is defined in terms of both pH and ionic strength, at the temperature of use.
The recipe will be based on the simplest method of preparing a buffer- by titration of a solution of acid or base to the correct pH. Thus, calibration and correct use of a pH meter is absolutely essential. Moreover, this approach means that the way of preparing a buffer becomes critical. A buffer prepared by addition of acid to the basic form is NOT the same as a buffer made by adding base to the acidic form of the buffer. See why on the next card.....
